Drug Abuse Resistance Education

Officer Fromlak has been the Dare Officer for the last three years. In January 1995 Officer Fromlak attended an 80 hour74 training program in Elizabethtown Pennsylvania to become a Certified D.A.R.E. Officer75. Since then Officer Fromlak has been instructing the D.A.R.E. program to the students of West View Elementary76 and beginning this year he will also instruct the program at Saint Anthanasius77 school78.

    The core program consists of 17 week visitation79 by Officer Fromlak at the 5th80 or 6th81 grade level. Dare program strategies are planned to focus on feelings relating to self esteem82, interpersonal and communications skills, decision making83 and positive alternatives to drug abuse behavior.

     There is a visitation portion of the D.A.R.E. program. Officer Fromlak visits with kindergarten, second and forth84 grade students for aproximately85 15 minutes86 four times a year.87Subjects for the kindergarten and scond88 grade students include Being 89safe, Drug 90safety, Learning to say no91 and Feelings. The forth92 grade students will discuss Rules to keep safe93, Drugs may help or harm94, Saying No To Drugs, Feeling Special and Daring to say no95.

     Not only is there an exchange of important information with the students. There96 is also a rapport established with a Police Officer and the students. The students can know that if they are in need of help or97 are in trouble, or just need someone to talk to98 99that the Police Officer is there to help in anyway he or she can.
